Question

Should a person pay attention to the messenger or to the message?

Answer

What if someone would come in here tonight and give you a money order for a million dollars. Oh, my, poor maybe in need. Now, you would rejoice and say, “Oh, my,” how rejoicing. And maybe there’d be a man come in that was tattered and poor, dirty, and ugly. And no matter what he looked like, it isn’t the messenger, it’s the message that he gives you. Is that right? So don’t notice the messenger; it’s the message that you’re hearing. Now, and you’d look at that piece of paper, you’d start rejoicing. You’d say, “My, I’m worth a million dollars. It’s a postal order for a million dollars, or a bank draft: a million dollars.” You’d say… “I can’t see; what are you rejoicing about? You haven’t got nothing.” You’d say, “Well, I’ve got a money order, or—for a million dollars.” Well, I’d say, “Well, that isn’t nothing but just a piece of paper, just ink wrote on a piece of paper.” You’d say, “But looky here. That money order, before it could be written, there had to be a million dollars deposited before that order could be written.” Is that right?
